Patients suspected of having botulism should immediately be placed under intensive care and administered:

• Botulinum Antitoxin ABE.
• Supportive care, including mechanical ventilation if necessary.The antitoxin is more effective if administered within 24 hours of the onset of symptoms.

In cases of botulism caused by inoculation, the wound should be debrided and drained surgically. Antibiotics, usually penicillin, should be administrated.
